Union Shipping Minister Sonowal Hails India Maritime Week 2025 a Roaring Success!

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on 30 October said that India Maritime Week 2025 achieved its target with one more day to go and the event is a roaring success.

Briefing the media persons on the penultimate day, Sonowal said, “We have achieved 12 lakh crore investments via 600-plus MoUs with different players. Also, the footfall we have targeted for the mega maritime event was one lakh visitors. With one more day to go for the curtains down, we have crossed the one lakh visitors’ mark. Both the visitors count and 12 lakh crore investments says that IMW 2025 is a big success.”

Sonowal also thanked the Chief Ministers, ministers and delegates from 85-plus countries who have made the mega event a grand success.

Elaborating further on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with leaders during the Global Maritime CEO Forum at the IMW 2025 event, where top players of maritime sector participated, Sonowal said that all the leaders at the Forum expressed satisfaction with the envisaged focus on maritime sector by the Modi Government. “India is going to be super power in maritime sector,” he added.

Giving more details about the 12 lakh crores investments, Vijay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, said, “Of the 12 lakh crore investments, 30 percent are going to port development, 20 percent are for green and sustainable shipping, 20 percent for shipbuilding projects, 20 percent for port-led development, and 10 percent investment goes towards maritime trade ancillary.”

On a question about future summits, Sonowal said that it will be biennial and most likely be held in Mumbai only due to its natural advantage. Besides others, Shantanu Thakur, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairman, Indian Ports Association, Chennai Port Authority & Kamarajar Port Limited, R. Lakshmanan, Joint Secretary (Ports), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and Smita Vats Sharma, DG, West Zone, PIB, attended the media briefing.
