Tamil Nadu Industries Minister Rajaa Exhorts Maritime Trade to “Set Up Shop” in State

If you are an investor, if you are connected to any trade, I would suggest you to come and set up shop in Tamil Nadu, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotions and Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu, TRB Rajaa has said.

He was addressing the Tamil Nadu State session held at the India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on 29 October 2025.

TRB Rajaa said: “Because, this is the right time when the state government keenly focusing heavily on the Blue Economy. So, it is a fantastic time to come to Tamil Nadu, especially when it comes to ports and shipbuilding.”

Speaking about significance of coastal development, Rajaa said, “As far as the coastal economy is concerned, from Korkai to Poombuhar, and now from Ennore to Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu has been in the maritime economy for over 2,000 years. We want to push it further. It is true that we have a lagging in shipbuilding, and we have set our eyes on it, and when Tamil Nadu sets it eyes on any sector, we only been to be Number One, not any less.”

Emphasizing that Tamil Nadu always bet for overall growth, Rajaa said: “Whenever Tamil Nadu pitches for itself, it doesn’t pitch for itself, we pitch for India. When Tamil Nadu does anything, it is for India. We are extremely proud for our country.”

Speaking about competitiveness among Indian states, Rajaa said, “I don’t consider other states are our competitors, Tamil Nadu competes only with other countries. And I have numbers to prove it why we are Number One in growth. It is Tamil Nadu’s way of showing India how things are done. And, this is something we want every single state in India to emulate. We want all of us (states) to grow. Because, Tamil Nadu strongly believes that only if every state wins, we will continue to sustain the victory Tamil Nadu have. We need ‘Team India’ to win for Tamil Nadu.”

Rajaa said: “As we are pitching here, we know that several of the western ports too pitching, several of you knows that the tide always favour the east, not just the tides from Delhi, some of the actual tides are actually useful and needed for the sector to thrive in Tamil Nadu. We want to make the blue economy work in a big way.”

Responding to JSW’s request of connecting Chennai with Bengaluru for movement of containers on double decker cargo train, Rajaa said, “It is a very good suggestion from Jindal Group. We will certainly take note of it. I want to assure that we will definitely link Bengaluru and even Andhra Pradesh also under the project.”

“We are fastest growing economy, and it is possible due to the leadership in Tamil Nadu that believes in decentralized growth. And this growth comes with connectivity, via road, rail and ports,” added Rajaa.
