At the Boita Bandana Utsav 2025 held at Paradip Port on 5 November, Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi delivered a strong message emphasizing Odisha’s ancient maritime traditions, the state’s economic growth, and the development of port-based industries.
In his address, the Chief Minister stated that Boita Bandana and Bali Jatra are not just festivals, but reflections of Odisha’s rich maritime history and the indomitable spirit of the Sadhabas—the brave seafarers of ancient Kalinga. He said this glorious tradition continues to inspire Odias to pursue new heights with courage and perseverance.
Highlighting the pivotal role of Paradip Port in Odisha’s development, Majhi said it has emerged as one of India’s premier ports. The port’s cargo handling capacity has grown from 71 million tonnes in 2015 to 150 million tonnes in 2025.
He described Paradip Port as the “gateway to modern Odisha’s progress” and the cornerstone of state’s economy. Under the Maritime India Vision 2030, the port aims to handle 300 million tonnes annually, while under Viksit Bharat 2047, its capacity will be enhanced to 500 million tonnes, transforming it into a Mega Port.
He further announced that the Odisha Government, in collaboration with Paradip Port Authority, plans to establish a major port at Bahuda in Ganjam district with an investment of ₹21,500 crore, and a shipbuilding and repair yard at the Mahanadi river mouth with an investment of ₹24,700 crore. Additionally, a world-class cruise terminal will be set up in Puri. These projects, he noted, “will give a major boost” to Odisha’s trade, tourism, and industrial sectors.
The Chief Minister also stated that in alignment with the Government of India’s Sagarmala, Gati Shakti, and National Logistics Policy, Odisha is developing a robust port-led economy. “The state government is working to establish Coastal Economic Zones across coastal districts,” said Majhi.
He remarked that “under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has entered a new era of maritime trade, and as envisioned in Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, Indian ports are set to become world-class.”
In his address, Minister of Industries, Skill Development & Technical Education, Sampad Chandra Swain, said that the state government is prioritizing industries, infrastructure, employment generation, and skill development around port-based economic growth.
He emphasized that the development of Paradip Port not only benefits Odisha but also strengthens India’s overall maritime economy. He added that “Paradip today is more than just a port—it is a symbol of Odisha’s limitless potential and a driving force in building a new India.”
Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Jagatsinghpur, Dr. Bibhu Prasad Tarai, said that in the coming years, Paradip will become the center of new industrial, educational, and transport-based projects, transforming the economic landscape of Jagatsinghpur and the entire state. He remarked that Paradip’s success is Odisha’s pride and a beacon of its future aspirations.
Paradip Port Authority Chairman P. L. Haranadh, IRTS, stated that over the past four years, Paradip Port has consistently achieved new records, surpassing the milestones of the past five decades. He credited this remarkable progress to capacity expansion, operational efficiency, skill development, and above all, the dedication and teamwork of “Team Paradip,” which has made Paradip India’s No. 1 port today.
The event was graced by Jagatsinghpur Collector J. Sonal, Central Range DIG Dr. Satyajit Naik, and other dignitaries. Paradip Port Authority’s Deputy Chairman Alekh Charan Sahu delivered the vote of thanks. Following the ceremony, the Chief Minister and other distinguished guests took a boat tour aboard TARINI around the port area.
