V.O. Chidambaranar Port Sets New Benchmark in Container Operations; DBGT Handles Widest Vessel Ever

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority proudly celebrated another significant milestone with the successful handling of M.V. MSC SILVIA at Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal (DBGT), Berth No. 8, on 19 July 2026.

With a record beam (width) of 48.20 metres, M.V. MSC SILVIA is the widest vessel ever handled at DBGT, highlighting the terminal’s capability to efficiently accommodate larger mainline container vessels. Measuring 300 metres in Length Overall (LOA) with a capacity of 9,411 TEUs, the vessel arrived from Port of Onne, Nigeria, reinforcing Tuticorin’s growing role in global maritime trade.

This milestone reflects V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority’s continued focus on strengthening port infrastructure and enhancing operational excellence.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to MSC Line for its continued confidence, and express our gratitude to the EXIM trade community, the shipping fraternity, and Team DBGT for their unwavering partnership, dedication, and commitment in making this achievement possible,” said a statement from the port authorities.

In a statement, the terminal operator said: “DBGT remains committed to enhancing port capabilities and strengthening Tuticorin’s position as a preferred hub for global shipping, logistics, and international trade.”
