V.O. Chidambaranar Port Marks Milestone, Handles its First Crude Palm Oil Vessel at Coal Jetty

V.O. Chidambaranar Port on 28 August 2026 marked a significant milestone by handling its first crude Palm Oil vessel at Coal Jetty–2, which has been re-modified with dedicated pipelines connecting the berth to storage tanks located five kms away.

The vessel MT ZY Galaxy, carrying 15,000 tonnes of crude Palm Oil from Kunak, Malaysia, berthed at VOC Port on 28 August 2026. The discharge operations were launched by Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, VOC Port Authority (VOCPA) in the presence of Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, K.T.V. Narayanan, Managing Director, KTV Health Food Private Limited, and senior Port officials.

The importer, KTV Health Food Private Limited, has established four storage tanks in the Port’s industrial zone and has a manufacturing capacity of 1,000 tonnes of refined Palmolein per day. The refined Palmolein produced by the company is distributed for regional domestic consumption. The vessel’s shipping agent is M/s. Seaport Services, Tuticorin.

V.O. Chidambaranar Port has allotted around 1633 Acres of Port lands for setting up of Port based industries like Power plants, Chemicals, Warehousing, food processing, edible oil and Green Hydrogen & its derivatives.

V.O. Chidambaranar Port is actively pursuing for expanding the manufacturing industries at Tuticorin to realise the Viksit Bharat (Developed India) 2047 initiative of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, to transform the country into a fully developed nation.

Sustana Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, in his message stated that the handling of the first crude Palm Oil vessel at the modified Coal Jetty-2 marks another step towards diversifying cargo, strengthening Port-based industries and enhancing the Port’s logistics ecosystem, while supporting the growth of the edible oil and food-processing sector in the region.

He also stated that V.O. Chidambaranar Port has been a frontrunner in expanding the Port based industries in the Port lands under the Sagarmala initiative of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, led by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
