Port Wings News Network:
Strongly pitching for keeping politics out of economic growth engines of the country, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotions and Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu, TRB Rajaa on 8 October 2025 appealed to the stakeholders to keep politics out of industry and growth stories.
“Please leave politics out of the industry, please leave politics out of growth stories, and economics itself,” said Rajaa.
He was delivering the Chief Guest’s address during the EFTA Business Summit 2025, organized by Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) in collaboration with the Guidance Tamil Nadu in Chennai.
Rajaa stated: “We [Tamil Nadu] do not sign MoUs for the sake of just signing MoUs. We do not sign MoUs to show numbers to the world. Many other places [states] do this. I don’t want to name any states. But, I don’t think it is appreciable approach. Our approach has given us a fantastic conversion rate. At the end of the day what matters is not that piece of paper you sign. It is the job that you have ensured that ultimately turns into a part of economic engine.”
Speaking about the Tamil Nadu’s stride on GDP growth, Rajaa stated: “Its been over a decade since we saw a double-digit growth. And happily for us, means not happily, I would say proudly, not happily. Very proudly, Tamil Nadu is the only state to click [achieve] double-digit growth this year. India is growing in less than seven percentage, while Tamil Nadu is growing at 11.19 percent. I said, I am not happily saying it because I would love to see other states beat us in growth story. We are all here playing this game for India. And, Tamil Nadu always plays for the Team India, and does not play the game alone.”
Speaking about prospects in shipbuilding in Tamil Nadu, Rajaa said: “Coming to Norway, again, I was recently in Oslo. We have been heavily pushing for the Blue Economy, and we are working on the shipbuilding area. You would be happy to know that we have [Tamil Nadu] signed Rs 30,000 crores worth MoUs with Cochin Shipyard and Mazagon Docks to build ships here in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi [Tuticorin]. Shipbuilding is amazing job creator. I see a lot coming from Norway in that segment.”
Seeking help in enhancing fish production in Tamil Nadu, Rajaa said: “Please help us [Tamil Nadu] on cage fishing. Our fishermen need to know your amazing cage fishing technology. I wanted to learn how you marketing your fish products, so that we can use it on our products too. We haven’t scratched the surface yet on value addition in the seafood sector. Most of us even don’t even know how to package fish row.” In his speech, the Minister also outlined the state’s vision for comprehensive economic growth and scope for improvements in enhancing trade ties.
