The Chennai Port Authority (ChPA) on 23 October 2025 hosted the Pre-Event MoU Signing Ceremony ahead of the India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025, to be held from 27 to 31 October 2025 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.
Organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) and the Indian Ports Association (IPA), India Maritime Week 2025, is the country’s flagship global maritime event. Bringing together over 100 nations, 100,000 delegates, and 500 exhibitors, the event will catalyze investment flows worth over ₹10 lakh crore across port modernization, green shipping, digital technologies, logistics, and shipbuilding.
The ceremony in Chennai was graced by Dr. V. Malini Shankar, Vice Chancellor, Indian Maritime University, as the Chief Guest. The event was presided over by Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairperson, Chennai Port Authority, Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL), and Indian Ports Association (IPA), along with S. Viswanathan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, Chennai Port Authority, and Managing Director, Maritime India Foundation.
In his opening address, S. Viswanathan provided an overview of the 25 strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed as part of the pre-event proceedings of IMW 2025. He noted that the MoUs span four key verticals — Infrastructure, Trade, Technology, and Sustainability — aligning Chennai Port’s transformation with the Maritime India Vision 2030 (MIV 2030) and the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 (MAKV 2047).
Addressing the gathering, Sunil Paliwal, Chairperson, emphasized the critical nature of the MoUs and their role in establishing a robust follow-up mechanism to ensure systematic monitoring and timely implementation of key projects. He noted that these partnerships will play a pivotal role in driving Chennai Port’s evolution into a future-ready, smart, and sustainable maritime hub.
Dr. V. Malini Shankar, Chief Guest and Vice Chancellor, Indian Maritime University, appreciated the spirit of collaboration demonstrated through the MoU signings. She noted that such initiatives reflect India’s holistic maritime vision — integrating infrastructure, education, technology, and sustainability — and reaffirmed IMU’s commitment to supporting the sector through research and capacity building.
The ceremony concluded with the exchange of MoUs between Chennai Port Authority and various partner organizations, including public and private sector enterprises, academic institutions, and technology providers. These partnerships reaffirm Chennai Port’s leadership in advancing India’s maritime transformation through modernization, innovation, and sustainability. As India moves towards Vikshit Bharat 2047, the initiatives launched in Chennai set the tone for a new era of integrated, green, and globally connected port-led development.
