Chennai Petroleum Hails Chennai Port as ‘Lifeline’ for CPCL’s Journey

During the Tamil Nadu State Session at India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025), organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, recently, H. Shankar, Managing Director, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), delivered an inspiring address on “Energy Gateways: CPCL’s Partnership for Progress.”

In his address, he highlighted the strong and enduring collaboration between CPCL and the Chennai Port Authority, noting that the Port has been the “lifeline” of CPCL, enabling uninterrupted crude imports, efficient product evacuation, and sustained refinery performance.

The session also showcased key initiatives such as part-loaded VLCC berthing and recent infrastructure upgrades at Bharathi Dock, including Quick Release Mooring Hooks (QRMH) and additional bollards, which have improved operational efficiency and reduced vessel turnaround time.

Shankar further mentioned the growing synergy with Kamarajar Port (erstwhile Ennore Port), which will drive the next phase of synchronized growth through expanded RLNG handling, future petrochemical projects, and terminal modernization.

The session was chaired by Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, and convened by Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairman, Indian Ports Association, Chennai Port Authority & Kamarajar Port Limited, V. Arun Roy, IAS, Secretary to GoTN (Industries, Investment Promotion & Commerce Department), and Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V O Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA).

It brought together industry leaders from the maritime, manufacturing, and energy sectors to discuss Tamil Nadu’s growing leadership in shipbuilding, clean energy, and industrial manufacturing.
