AMET Institute of Science and Technology Holds Passing Out Parade 2026

AMET Institute of Science and Technology (AMET IST), located along the scenic East Coast Road in Thenpattinam, held its Passing Out Parade on 18 May 2026 for the first batch of B.Sc. Nautical Science cadets and the fifth batch of Electro-Technical Officer cadets.

Capt. Karan Kochhar, Managing Director, Maersk Fleet Management and Technology (India) Pvt. Ltd., A.P. Moller – Maersk, was the chief guest for the ceremony. Capt. Dr. K. Karthik, Principal, welcomed the gathering and outlined the achievements of AMET IST in his address.

Delivering the Presidential Address, Dr. J. Ramachandran, Founder and Chancellor of AMET University, emotionally recalled the growth of the institute. He stated that the noble and futuristic vision was fostered by Maersk through its (then) Head of Marine HR, Niels H. Bruss, and Capt. Karan Kochhar, who played a pivotal role in the development of AMET IST.

In his felicitation address, Col. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam, Provost, said that Indian seafarers form a significant portion of the global seafaring community, and within that pool, AMET cadets constitute a considerable share.

In his address, Dr. Rajesh Ramachandren, President, AMET University, recalled the growth story of AMET IST — from the foundation-laying ceremony and construction of classrooms to the Passing Out Parade of the first batch of B.Sc. Nautical Science cadets.

In his Chief Guest address, Capt. Karan Kochhar motivated the cadets to follow their hearts, maintain high standards of work ethic, and always remain humble when entrusted with authority. Capt. Arvind Shankar and Capt. Danny Jowher also addressed the cadets. Dr. V. Sangeetha Albin, Registrar, rendered Vote of Thanks.

The Maersk Centre of Excellence has been established exclusively to train cadets selected for A.P. Moller – Maersk. The dedicated campus features a wide range of facilities, including electrical and electronics laboratories, workshops, communication labs, safety labs, seamanship labs, simulators, provisions for augmented and virtual reality, and a canal for boat rowing practice and lifeboat operations.
