Chennai Port Donates Rs One Crore to Amar Seva Sangam for Improving Super Specialty Healthcare Facility in Tenkasi

Chennai Port Authority (CPA) on 24 July 2025 handed over a financial assistance of Rs One Crore to Amar Seva Sangam to improve facilities at the Sangam-run “Spinal Injured cum Stroke Care Centre” at Ayikudy in Tenkasi district, Tamil Nadu.

According to a media statement, the port authority singed an MoU with the Sangam that aims at supporting the expansion of Amar Seva Sangam-run healthcare facility in Tenkasi.

Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairperson, Chennai Port Authority and Chairman of Kamarajar Port Ltd., (KPL), presented the cheque (amounting Rs 1.05 crore) to Shri Sankara Raman, Promoter, Co-Chairman and Secretary, Amar Seva Sangam, in the presence of Shri S. Muralikrishnan, IDAS, Chief Vigilance Officer, along with Heads of Departments, and senior officials of the port.

Amar Seva Sangam, a charitable organization, has been operating in Ayakudi, Tenkasi district since 1981, and providing yeomen service to locals. A special care center for patients suffering from spinal cord injuries and paralysis due to accidents was established here in 2007 with modern facilities. Spread over an area of about 30 acres, the center focuses on the rural population and provides rehabilitation services to people suffering from spinal cord injuries and paralysis. It carries out work including physiotherapy, vocational training and community-based rehabilitation efforts.

It may be noted that Amar Seva Sangam had approached the Chennai Port for financial assistance to further expand this center, which is being used by hundreds of local people. Following the request, the port authorities conducted an investigation and approved the provision of financial assistance of Rs. 1.05 crore from the fund depending on the recipient company and society. It is noteworthy that through this, Chennai Port is helping in various fields including inclusive development, commitment to social well-being, and the welfare of the differently-abled. Besides others, Indranil Hazra, Secretary, CPA, S. Kirupanandasamy, Traffic Manager, and C. Thara Sugirtha, Deputy Secretary, participated in the event.
