VOC Port Empowers Youth Through Skill Development Programmes

On 10 September 2025, the valedictory function was held at the Port to mark the completion of the Data Entry Operator skill training programme as a part of VOC Port’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, through Centre of Excellence in Maritime & Shipbuilding (CEMS).

During the valedictory function, Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, awarded certificates to the successful students of the Data Entry Operator skill training programme and also inaugurated new training programmes for aspiring Export-Import and Warehouse Executives.

The concluded two-month Data Entry Operator skill training programme, was inaugurated on 07 July 2025 by the Chairperson, benefited 25 students in improving their technical skills and career readiness. Many of the trainees have already secured placements in reputed organizations, including the e-commerce major Flipkart.

VOC Port is conducting a series of training programmes aimed at skilling unemployed and underprivileged youth, through CEMS, an initiative by Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways. The programme conducted by CEMS offers practical, hands-on learning with industry tools and practices, along with Industry-recognized certification to boost employability. It also provides placement assistance through industry tie-ups and guidance for starting small-scale businesses, helping participants build a strong foundation for their career and entrepreneurial journey.

Several upcoming programmes to be conducted by the Port through CEMS in plan include training for EXIM Executives, Warehouse Executives, Courier Associate Operations, Supply Chain Executives, Welders, and Computer Numerical Control Operators. The Port has sanctioned Rs.56.95 lakh for CEMS to conduct these programmes.

In his address, Susanta Kumar Purohit highlighted that in the coming months, over 175 youth are expected to benefit from skill-based programmes in various fields.

VOC Port continues to actively implement initiatives in healthcare, education, community support, environmental protection, and skill development through CSR initiatives. The initiatives play a vital role in the overall development of communities in and around Thoothukudi district. The event was attended by Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, and other senior officers of the Port.
