V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority on 19 November announced the signing of an MoU with Ambuja Cement Limited (Adani Group) under the Minimum Guaranteed Tonnage-based Incentive Scheme.
According to details released by the port authority on social media, the agreement assures coastal movement of 2,50,000 metric tonnes of clinker annually.
“This partnership reinforces our commitment to promoting coastal shipping, enhancing cargo throughput at port-operated berths, and strengthening sustainable logistics for our industry partners,” said the port in social media post.
It may be noted that in May 2024, VOC Port successfully shifted 600,000 tonnes of clinker cargo from rail to coastal shipping by working with Ambuja Cements and logistics provider Seaport Shipping Pvt. Ltd. On 11 May, 2024, the port handled the first vessel from Jakhau Port, Gujarat, to VOC Port.
