V.O.C. Port Continues to Strengthen Operational Excellence, Records Growth on all Cargo Segments

V.O. Chidambaranar Port has continued to enhance its operational excellence, registering notable improvements in Output per Ship Berth Day (OSBD) across all major cargo segments during April–May 2026 compared to the same period last year.
The consistent rise in productivity underscores the port’s commitment to efficiency and modern cargo-handling practices as it solidifies its role as a key maritime gateway on India’s east coast.
The port achieved impressive growth in key categories, with Dry Bulk registering a 14.2 per cent increase, Break Bulk rising by 16.2 per cent, and Liquid Bulk growing 4.8 per cent.
Container operations also posted healthy gains, with both container throughput and Container TEUs increasing by 6.4 per cent each, reflecting broad-based performance improvements across diverse cargo verticals.
These gains highlight V.O. Chidambaranar Port’s sustained focus on productivity enhancement, streamlined operations, and world-class infrastructure utilisation. The port authority said the positive trends reinforce its strategic position and readiness to support growing trade volumes in the region.
VOC Port Chief Meets SPIC Team
Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, and Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, along with senior officials of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin, held a meeting with K.R. Anandan, Whole Time Director, SPIC, and his team recently.
