Steady Rise in Ship Calls to V. O. Chidambaranar Port

V. O. Chidambaranar Port, one of the fastest growing major ports located in Tamil Nadu and connected to the international shipping route, has handled 882 ships up to September in this financial year 2025-26, showing an upward swing compared to 844 ships recorded during the corresponding period of the previous financial year 2024-25.

According to the port management, this steady growth reflects enhanced maritime activity and increased trade movement through the Port.

TICT CROSSES 2 LAKH TEUs LANDMARK

In another achievement, V.O. Chidambaranar Port’s Tuticorin International Container Terminal (TICT) has successfully handled over 2,00,000 TEUs of containers since the commencement of operations on 16 September 2024. “This milestone stands as a testament to the strong support of our stakeholders and our shared vision to propel India’s maritime growth,” the port said in a social media post.

VOC PORT’S DIRECT PORT ENTRY FACILITY

Also, VOC Port’s Direct Port Entry facility, commissioned in April 2025, has become a vital driver of export growth.

Up to September 2025, the Port had handled 14,036 TEUs of export containers. This accounts for 7.99% of the total export-laden volume of 1,75,750 TEUs handled during the same period, indicating strong support from the trade sector.

The facility ensures direct connectivity to the terminal, enabling faster cargo movement and lowering logistics costs for customers in the hinterland.

VALEDICTORY FUNCTION OF THE FIDE-RATING CHESS TOURNAMENT

The valedictory function of the FIDE-rating chess tournament was held on 05 October 2025. Albert John, IPS, District Superintendent of Police, Tuticorin, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and, along with S.P. Mohan Kumar, Secretary & President of the VOC Sports Council, presented prizes to the winners. The tournament, conducted from 1 to 5 October 2025, was sponsored by VOC Port as part of its initiative to nurture young sporting talent. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 200 chess aspirants.
