Marking a new chapter in the efforts to strengthen and promote sporting activities across the railway zone, R. Senthil Kumar, IRTS, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, has been nominated as the President of the Southern Railway Sports Association (SRSA).

His nomination is expected to provide fresh impetus to the development of sports within Southern Railway, with a focus on encouraging sporting talent, improving opportunities for railway employees and nurturing promising athletes.

The Southern Railway Sports Association plays an important role in organising inter-divisional and inter-railway sporting competitions, supporting training and coaching activities, and facilitating the participation of railway sportspersons in various championships. It also contributes to the identification and development of talent across different sporting disciplines.

Southern Railway has a sporting legacy, with its athletes participating in several national-level competitions and representing Indian Railways in various disciplines. The zone has also hosted major events, including the 79th All India Railway Football Championship in Chennai in August 2024, which brought together 364 players from 13 railway zones and production units.

With Senthil Kumar assuming the leadership of SRSA, expectations are that greater attention will be given to strengthening sports infrastructure, expanding training facilities, promoting young talent and creating an environment that enables railway sportspersons to achieve excellence.

His nomination is expected to reinforce Southern Railway’s commitment to making sports an integral part of employee welfare, teamwork, discipline and organisational development.

The railway fraternity and sporting community look forward to his leadership in taking the Southern Railway Sports Association to greater heights.
