Paradip Port Authority (PPA) observed World Environment Day 2026 at its state-of-the-art Sewage Treatment Plant-3 (STP-3) complex, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and climate action.

The celebration was organized in line with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) theme for 2026, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”, under the global call to action #NowForClimate.

The programme was led by P. L. Haranadh, IRTS, Chairman, Paradip Port Authority, in the presence of T. Venu Gopal, Deputy Chairman, Heads of Departments, officers, employees, and volunteers from the Paradip Saksharata Samiti (PSS).

Addressing the gathering, Haranadh emphasized the importance of integrating nature-based solutions and sustainable technologies into port operations. He reiterated PPA’s vision of transforming Paradip Port into a modern, environmentally responsible, and climate-resilient maritime hub.

“Our natural environment provides the ultimate blueprint for resilience. By leveraging advanced ecological engineering at STP-3, PPA is not merely treating wastewater; we are implementing nature-based solutions that reduce our carbon footprint, conserve valuable resources, and contribute to a sustainable future for coming generations,” he said.

The Chairman highlighted the Port Authority’s ongoing efforts towards building an automated, carbon-neutral, and green port ecosystem through innovative environmental management practices, resource-efficient infrastructure, and sustainable operational strategies. He also stressed the need for collective action in addressing environmental challenges and safeguarding natural resources.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, PPA reaffirmed its commitment to the message of “Go Green, Go Clean”, promoting environmental awareness, resource conservation, and climate-conscious practices across the port and surrounding communities. The Authority reiterated that initiatives such as renewable energy adoption, water conservation, afforestation, waste management, and pollution control will continue to be strengthened in the years ahead.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to protect the environment, reduce carbon emissions, preserve natural resources, and work together towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
