Paradip Port Hosts Roadshow on India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 in Bhubaneswar

The Paradip Port Authority under the aegis of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), on 24 September 2025 conducted a Roadshow in Bhubaneswar on the theme “Navigating the shift of Indian Maritime sector: From Volume to Vision.”

The event forms a key part of a series of nationwide outreach programs on preliminary event for India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025.

Sampad Chandra Swain, Minister, Industries, Skill Development & Technical Education, Govt of Odisha, graced the roadshow as Chief Guest.

Besides industry leaders, government officials, and stakeholders from across the maritime value chain in the region, Dr. Bibhu Prasad Tarai, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha); Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries Department, Govt of Odisha & Chairman IPICOL; and Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Housing & Urban Development and Commerce & Transport, Govt of Odisha, attended the roadshow.

Delivering the welcome address, P.L. Haranadh, Chairman of Paradip Port Authority, highlighted global maritime trends of steady trade growth, sustainability, and digital transformation, while underlining India’s maritime vision 2047.

He also highlighted that Indian Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai to be held between 27 to 31 October 2025, will be a five-day global forum joined by 100+ maritime nations, 200 international speakers, 500 exhibitors, and one lakhs delegates, designed for leaders to converge, converse, coordinate, and co-create solutions.

Discussions will span port modernization, capacity augmentation, green shipping and climate-conscious sailing, shipbuilding, insurance & finance, and maritime security, with full participation from India’s maritime states—including Odisha.

The Ministry plans MoUs exceeding ₹10 lakh crores, of which Paradip Port expects more than one lakh crores, nearly one-tenth of the target itself.

The Chairman also stressed the recent signing of MoUs at the PM’s event at Bhavnagar, Gujarat on 20 September with Govt of Odisha for the development of Bahuda Major Port at ₹21,500 crore, a shipbuilding hub at Mahanadi Mouth at ₹24,700 crore, and a cruise terminal at Puri, alongside MoPSW’s initiatives of One nation One Port process document to drive efficiency and EoDB of Indian Ports.

Addressing the gathering, Usha Padhee outlined the State’s vision for building a highly competitive and inclusive maritime sector anchored in Vision Odisha 2036 and 2047.

She emphasized the roadmap to expand port capacity from the current 80 MTPA to 500 MTPA by 2047 through modernization, new infrastructure, and the proposed Odisha Maritime Board.

Highlighting that port-led development is central to realizing the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, she called for greater private participation, resilient infrastructure, and innovation. Importantly, she underlined the need to increase women’s participation in the maritime sector, making growth not only sustainable but inclusive.

In his address, Hemant Sharma highlighted the deep synergy between Odisha’s industrial growth and the maritime sector, noting that each drives the other’s expansion.

He underlined that Odisha’s economy, growing at 8–9% and outpacing the national average, must be anchored in a robust global value chain to sustain momentum. He further informed that investors have already lined up for shipbuilding and ship repair facilities, following the signing of recent MoUs with Paradip Port Authority.

Dr. Bibhu Prasad Tarai in his address appreciated the joint initiatives of the Government of Odisha and the Government of India to strengthen the port and maritime sector in the State.

He highlighted that such collaborative efforts are paving the way for Odisha to emerge as a key maritime hub.

Delivering the Chief Guest Address, Sampad Chandra Swain highlighted about Odisha’s readiness to become India’s eastern maritime gateway, Purvodaya and a driver of sustainable industrial growth.

He stressed that Odisha’s maritime growth agenda is aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047 and in years to come he positioned India in top-five shipbuilding status and stronger ship-recycling, while highlighting blue-economy opportunities and inclusive skilling, including women’s participation.

He reiterated that the Govt of Odisha is all set to support the development of Bahuda Port and Kendrapada’s Ship Building and ship repair initiatives by Paradip Port—advancing the State’s “Viksit Odisha by 2036” vision.

The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Deputy Chairman (In-Charge), A.K. Sahoo. The programme was followed by two thematic panel discussions on cargo efficiency and growth, and on digital pathways for smart ports through IT & E-Governance. The event was supported by Grant Thornton as knowledge partner and Assocham as industry partner.
