Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s Largest Container Port, has surpassed 8 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) in container throughput during the fiscal year 2025–2026 (as of year-to-date), on 26 March, marking an important juncture.

In addition, the port has achieved the highest annual handling performance since its establishment with an overall cargo throughput of 100 million metric tonnes (MMT).

JNPA marked this milestone by convening a stakeholder meet with terminal operators. JNPA acknowledged that this accomplishment is a collective outcome of strong collaboration across the maritime trade ecosystem, whose continued partnership has been instrumental in driving JNPA’s sustained growth and operational excellence.

Addressing the terminal operators, Gaurav Dayal, IAS, Chairperson, JNPA, and CMD, VPPL, said, “Crossing the 8 million TEUs benchmark along with achieving 100 MMT overall throughput is a proud moment for JNPA, and the entire trade community associated with us. This record performance reflects the resilience, efficiency, and dedication of all stakeholders, including terminal operators, and our workforce. We remain committed to further strengthening our infrastructure, enhancing ease of doing business, and contributing to India’s vision of becoming a global maritime hub.”

JNPA’s traffic profile continues to be largely gateway-driven, reflecting its core role in handling the nation’s gateway cargo, while transshipment volumes are gradually increasing. JNPA continues to undertake strategic infrastructure development and digital transformation initiatives to cater to growing trade demands and strengthen its global competitiveness.
