The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has facilitated another major milestone in the movement of Over Dimensional Cargo (ODC) through inland waterways, reinforcing its commitment to efficient and environmentally sustainable transport.
According to a media statement, an ODC consignment weighing 189.260 metric tonnes, crucial for strengthening Assam’s semiconductor ecosystem, is being transported via National Waterway–2 (Brahmaputra) and has reached Pandu in Guwahati on 10 February 2026. Its final destination is at the Tata Semiconductor Assembly in Morigaon.
The cargo commenced its journey from Diamond Harbour, is being ferried by MV Chitrangada through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route (IBPR) via Dhubri, and is scheduled for unloading at Silghat.
This movement underscores the growing role of inland waterways as a smooth, cost-effective and green logistics alternative for heavy and specialised cargo.
