Chidambaranar Port Achieves Historic Milestone by Handling Highest-ever Parcel Size at Port

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin achieved a historic milestone by handling the highest-ever parcel size at the Port.

The Liberia-flagged vessel MV Star Eva berthed at North Cargo Berth-2 carrying 1,04,099 tonnes of coal from Richards Bay, South Africa, surpassing the previous record set on 29 August 2021 by MV Ince Ankara, which handled 93,719 tonnes at the Port.

M/s Tata International Limited is the consignee, M/s Port and Sea Experts is the steamer agent, and M/s BL Transport is the stevedore for the vessel operation.

This achievement reflects the Port’s growing cargo handling capability, operational efficiency, and commitment towards strengthening India’s maritime trade ecosystem.

Strengthening official language implementation

Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, VOCPA, on 25 May chaired the quarterly Official Language Implementation Committee (OLIC) meeting for the quarter ending June 2026, with participation from Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, VOCPA, Heads of Departments, and concerned Nodal Officers.

The meeting focused on the Annual Programme targets for 2026–27, enhancement of bilingual implementation in official documents, compliance with Official Language Rules, and the conduct of Hindi and Technical Workshops. Discussions were also held on organizing the newly constituted TOLIC Office-2 meeting under the Chairmanship of VOCPA in July 2026.

The deliberations reflected VOCPA’s continued commitment towards effective governance, administrative excellence, and the promotion of Rajbhasha implementation across the Port.

Empowering women. Strengthening coastal communities

Under its CSR Initiative 2025–26, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has provided 10 Pink Autos to members of the marginal coastal community, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and promoting financial independence for women.

This initiative reflects the Port’s continued commitment towards inclusive growth, community development, and building a more self-reliant and empowered society through meaningful social impact.

Impressive growth in Sulphuric Acid cargo

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has recorded an impressive 289.88% growth in Sulphuric Acid cargo handling during April 2025 – April 2026, showcasing the Port’s growing role in supporting industries and strengthening trade connectivity.

By enabling efficient cargo movement and supporting key industrial sectors, the Port continues to contribute towards economic development and supply chain growth.

Growth in Oil Cake/Copra cargo handling

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin continues to strengthen agricultural and allied trade with a 6.28% growth in Oil Cake/Copra cargo handling during April 2025 – April 2026.

Widely used in the livestock, edible oil, and export sectors, the steady increase in cargo movement reflects growing trade demand and the Port’s efficient cargo handling capabilities. With modern infrastructure, seamless logistics, and operational excellence, VOC Port remains committed to enabling reliable maritime trade and supporting India’s economic growth.
