Chennai Port’s Roadshow for India Maritime Week Draws All Stakeholders, Dedicated Workshop Deliberates on Catalyzing Maritime Excellence

Chennai Port Authority on 25 August 2025 organized a roadshow for promoting the upcoming “India Maritime Week” (IMW) 2025, scheduled from 27 – 31 October 2025 in Mumbai.

The roadshow saw a participation of over 150 delegates, including senior officials from Government of India, Government of Tamil Nadu, Major Ports in the state – Chennai Port Authority, Kamarajar Port Limited, and V O Chidambaranar Port Authority (Tuticorin), Private Port & Terminals, national and regional Chambers of Commerce and Industries, EXIM trade, Shipping Lines, representatives from DCI, CSL, SCI, Indian Maritime University, academia and other maritime research institutions.  

T. K. Ramachandran, IAS, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterway, was the Chief Guest of the event.

COMMITMENT TO PROPEL INDIA AT THE FOREFRONT OF THE LEADING MARITIME NATIONS GLOBALLY

In his special address, Ramachandran highlighted the Government of India’s commitment to propel India at the forefront of the leading maritime nations globally. He stated that the oceans connect us and that recent international events – India-ASEAN cruise Dialogue at Mahabalipuram (held on 30 June & 1 July 2025) and BIMSTEC event (14 & 15 July 2025) held in Vizag are aimed at establishing closer & deeper multilateral ties with neighboring nations.

SIGNIFICANCE OF INDIA MARITIME WEEK

Highlighting the significance of India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 to the media during a special media briefing, Ramachandran said, “India Maritime Week, scheduled for October in Mumbai, is the nation’s premier platform to showcase progress across the maritime sector, including ports, shipping, shipbuilding, and waterways transport. The event will convene global and domestic leaders to foster dialogue, innovation, and policy initiatives aimed at building a sustainable and future-ready maritime ecosystem.”

Ramachandran stated: “To make the event more successful and to help the stakeholders to get hassle-free response, we have formed 22 dedicated groups, like PPP-focused, Green Cell to deal with all Green Energy related queries, Cruise Tourism, Ship building and so on.”

During the workshop organized along the roadshow, recent initiatives of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & waterways under two of the thematic areas – ‘Projects, Schemes & Public-Private Partnerships’, and ‘Human Resource (Departmental & Institutional)’ were deliberated by Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairman of Chennai Port & Kamarajar Port.

He explained the host of policy-level decisions undertaken by the Ministry with respect to Model Concession Agreements for Public-Private Partnership projects, Streamlining Environment Clearance Procedure, Training and Capacity Building initiatives, standardization of rules and regulations, recent employment drive through common direct recruitment.

During the event, speakers from various fields such as industries, trade, academia & research shared their experiences and encouraged participants to participate in the IMW 2025. Besides others, J.P. Irene Cynthia, IAS, Managing Director, KPL, attended the event.

INDIA MARITIME WEEK 2025

The India Maritime Week 2025 will bring together 1,00,000+ delegates from 100+ countries and is likely to generate over 10 Lakh crores investment opportunities. It is one of the world’s Largest Maritime events.

Featuring thematic sessions, business forums, exhibitions, and high-level dialogues, IMW 2025 will catalyze advancing India’s maritime ambitions.

The IMW 2025 is a fourth such event. The Maritime India Summit 2016 was India’s first large-scale maritime-focused event. The summit supported the launch of the Sagarmala Programme and facilitated MoUs worth billions in investment. It had participation from over 40 countries with 5,000+ delegates. The Maritime India Summit 2021 was held virtually due to the pandemic but achieved record participation with 1.9 lakh attendees from 100+ countries. Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS) 2023 expanded India’s maritime vision globally with a hybrid event format. It focused on green corridors, digitalization, autonomous shipping, and port-led development. 

During the previous Maritime India Summits, Chennai Port signed over 30 MoUs worth over Rs. 8000 crores. These MoUs were signed for business expansion with IOCL for the creation of a bunkering hub, Capacity expansion through dredging, construction of tank farms, a Multimodal logistics park, skill development with NTCPWC, Ocean Research, development of Sewage Treatment Plants, etc. 

This time, driven by a high demand, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways have planned the IMW 2025 programme for one whole week from 27th October to 31st October 2025 and termed it as ‘India Maritime Week (IMW) – 2025’.

 A series of IMW 2025 roadshows is being organized across India to sensitize regional businesses and trade bodies and to encourage states and industry partners to participate in the IMW 2025 event and take local to global, build partnerships and collaborate innovatively.

The IMW 2025 will culminate in five days of policy, commerce, and technology discussions at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (NESCO), Mumbai this 27th – 31st October.  Industries, trade, businesses, academia, Press & media and others are encouraged to participate in the India Maritime Week 2025.
