Chennai Port Crowned Champions of All India Major Ports Football Tournament

Chennai Port emerged champions of the All India Major Ports Football Tournament on 27 February, defeating V.O. Chidambaranar Port in the final held at the Tuticorin Port grounds.
The week-long tournament was earlier inaugurated by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, on 23 February 2026.
Both the VOC Port, Tuticorin and Chennai Port teams delivered an outstanding performance in the grand finale. Chennai Port clinched the championship by scoring two goals, while VOC Port scored 1 goal.
Mumbai Port and Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (Kolkata Port) jointly secured the third position.
The event was hosted by VOC Port Authority under the aegis of Major Ports Sports Control Board. The five-day tournament, conducted from 23 February to 27 February 2026, witnessed enthusiastic participation from major ports across the country.
Teams representing Mumbai Port, Visakhapatnam Port, Mormugao Port, Deendayal Port (Kandla), Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (Kolkata Port), Chennai Port, Cochin Port, Paradip Port and the host V.O.C. Port competed in league matches.
Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V.O.C. Port Authority, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed prizes.
In his address, he appreciated the dedication, discipline and sporting spirit displayed by the players of the teams throughout the tournament. He emphasised that such national-level sporting events strengthen inter-port coordination and promote physical fitness and team spirit among employees.
The prize distribution ceremony was held in the august presence of P. Kavin Maharaj, IOFS, Chief Vigilance Officer, V.O.C. Port Authority, S.P. Mohan Kumar, Secretary, VOC Port & President VOC Port Sports Council, Heads of the departments, senior officials of the Port and sports enthusiasts.
The tournament stands as a testament to V.O.C. Port’s commitment to promoting sports and fostering a culture of unity and excellence among Major Ports of India.
