Chennai Port Authority Remembers V.O. Chidambaranar on his Memorial Day

The Chennai Port Authority on 18 November 2025 commemorated the 89th memorial day of V.O. Chidambaranar, known as ‘Kappalottiya Tamizhan’ (The Tamil Helmsman), a prominent freedom fighter, lawyer, and entrepreneur who established the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company to challenge the British shipping monopoly.
S. Viswanathan, I.A.S., Deputy Chairperson of Chennai Port Authority, S. Murali Krishnan, I.D.A.S., Chief Vigilance Officer, Chennai Port Authority, accompanied by the Heads of Departments of the organization, officers and staff, paid floral tributes to the statue situated at the Harbour Main Gate.
