Chennai Port Announces Hefty 90% Concession for Vessels Calling Only at the Outer Anchorage

As part of its long-term strategy to develop an “Integrated Offshore Maritime Services Hub” at the Outer Anchorage, the Chennai Port Authority (ChPA) on 10 August 2026 announced a promotional scheme that came into effect immediately.

According to Trade Notification No. 05/2026 issued by the ChPA, the Port Authority has introduced a “Promotional Concession Scheme” offering substantial concessions on applicable Port Dues and Anchorage Fee for vessels calling exclusively at Chennai Port Outer Anchorage (without any inner harbour calls) for one or more authorised maritime services.

These services include bunkering, provisions, stores, spares, crew change, sick crew disembarkation, repairs, underwater operations, surveys and inspections.

Under the scheme, Vessels above 50,000 GRT will receive a 90% concession on the full non-concessional tariff for both Port Dues and Anchorage Fee. Likewise, Vessels up to 50,000 GRT will receive an 85% concession on the full non-concessional tariff for both Port Dues and Anchorage Fee.

Additionally, vessels entering the port solely for receiving provisions, stores, fresh water and/or spares will be eligible for the same 85% concession (vessels up to 50,000 GRT) or 90% concession (vessels above 50,000 GRT). The previous concession for these services stood at 50%.

Vessels calling exclusively for bunkering and/or crew change, or to disembark any sick crew member at the anchorage, will also receive the 85% or 90% concession (depending on GRT). The earlier concession for these services was 75%.

The Port Authority clarified that the promotional concession applies only to Port Dues and Anchorage Fee covered under this scheme. All other port charges remain payable as per the notified Scale of Rates.

The concession is available solely to service-recipient vessels calling exclusively at the Outer Anchorage without inner harbour calls. It applies only for the authorised maritime services listed in the Trade Notice and will not be extended to vessels undertaking cargo operations or passenger movements.

The promotional scheme will be reviewed on 31 March 2027 for its efficacy and may be modified or extended as required, according to the Trade Notice issued by the Traffic Department of Chennai Port Authority.
