In a joint operation, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Chennai Customs and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) intercepted a female Indian passenger arriving from Bangkok at Chennai International Airport on 22 August, 2026. Acting on passenger profiling and targeted baggage screening, officers detected suspicious images during X-ray checks of her checked-in luggage.
A detailed examination yielded 14,437 grams (gross weight) of suspected contraband, cleverly concealed inside six Thai snack packets. The NCB seized the contraband, arrested the passenger under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and remanded her to judicial custody while further investigation proceeds. This successful interception underscores the vigilance of Chennai Customs and NCB in curbing drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
