The leadership team of PSA, headed by Regional CEO Vincent Ng, on 22 October held a high-level meeting with Sachin S. Kurve, Chairperson, Chennai Port Authority, to discuss strategies for accelerating container terminal growth and strengthening maritime connectivity.

During the discussions, the Chairperson encouraged PSA-run Chennai International Terminals Pvt Ltd (CITPL) to actively pursue new westbound and eastbound shipping services.

He set an ambitious target of handling 1 million TEUs in FY 2026–27, underscoring the port’s commitment to expanding its container volumes.

A key point of focus was the ongoing development of the 21 km double-deck Maduravoyal Elevated Corridor, which is scheduled for completion by November 2027.

Once operational, the corridor is expected to significantly improve road connectivity to Chennai Port and streamline container movement to and from the terminal.

The CITPL team expressed appreciation for Chennai Port’s proactive initiatives, including the establishment of an Empty Container Yard and the introduction of new rail and shipping line services. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing connectivity and driving sustained container growth at the port.

The meeting marks another step forward in the strong partnership between PSA and Chennai Port Authority, aimed at positioning Chennai as a more competitive and efficient container gateway on India’s east coast.
