Mumbai Port Celebrates 80th Independence Day With Patriotic Fervour

Mumbai Port Authority celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour at Indira Dock, reaffirming its commitment to national service, maritime development and the spirit of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga 2026’ campaign.

Vipin Menoth, Traffic Manager, Mumbai Port Authority, hoisted the National Flag and it was followed by the National Anthem, inspection of the parade, address to the gathering, felicitation and cultural programme.

The function was attended by senior officials of Mumbai Port Authority, CISF personnel, police representatives, officers, staff, workers and members of the port community.

Addressing the gathering, Vipin Menoth paid tribute to India’s freedom fighters and recalled the contribution of Bombay’s workers to the freedom movement.

He said that India’s freedom was earned through sacrifice, courage and the determination of millions of Indians. He also remembered the role of ordinary workers, including those from Bombay’s docks, mills and streets, who supported the call for freedom with courage and conviction.

Speaking about the role of Mumbai Port in nation-building, he said, “For more than a century and a half, Mumbai Port has been built and sustained by people whose work may not always appear in history books, but whose contribution is written into the growth of this country. Every vessel we pilot, every berth we operate and every tonne we move adds quietly but surely to the strength of our nation.”

He further stated that “Mumbai Port continues to carry this legacy into a new India. In FY 2025-26, Mumbai Port handled its highest-ever cargo throughput of 75.15 million tonnes, thus registering nine per cent year-on-year growth. As India moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, the port remains committed to strengthening its role as a greener, smarter and more digital port, with safety, service and sustainability at the centre of its operations.”

The Independence Day celebration was also linked with the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign, being observed from 9 August to 17 August 2026. As part of the campaign, Mumbai Port Authority departments, officers, employees, port workers, seafarers and associated personnel were encouraged to participate through the display of the National Flag, collective singing of Vande Mataram and digital participation through the official Har Ghar Tiranga portal.

Merchant vessels, port facilities and maritime establishments were also encouraged to prominently display the National Flag during the campaign period. Mumbai Port Authority’s media and communication team is supporting the campaign through official publicity on digital platforms and consolidation of campaign-related information received from departments.

The celebration reflected Mumbai Port Authority’s continued commitment to the nation, its respect for India’s freedom movement and its resolve to contribute to India’s maritime growth in the years ahead.
