V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority’s sustained efforts in renewable energy adoption, green fuel production and decarbonization have earned it the “Excellence in Motion: Re-defining the Future of Logistics in India” Award 2026 under the category “Green and Sustainable Logistics – Decarbonization Champion” presented by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) on 05 June 2026 in New Delhi.

The award recognizes the Port’s integrated Green and Sustainable Logistics programme covering Green Mobility, Green Methanol Bunkering, Green Hydrogen initiatives and Renewable Energy Powered Port Projects.

With global shipping lines, cargo owners and regulators increasingly prioritising low-carbon logistics, the Port has adopted an integrated approach towards cleaner mobility, alternative fuel readiness, renewable energy adoption and the development of infrastructure for future green fuel supply chains.

The initiatives have delivered measurable progress in decarbonising port operations and strengthening the Port’s green logistics ecosystem. During the financial year 2025–26, 94% of the Port’s electricity requirement was met through renewable energy sources. During the last quarter of the financial year (January-March 2026), 100% of the Port’s electricity consumption was met through renewable energy, making VOC Port Scope 2 emissions-free for the quarter.

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has emerged as the first port in India to produce Green Hydrogen, marking a significant milestone in the country’s maritime decarbonisation journey. The Port is also positioning itself as a strategic Green Hydrogen and Offshore Wind Energy Hub while advancing green mobility, green methanol bunkering readiness, alternative marine fuel initiatives and renewable energy-powered operations.

The Port’s renewable energy infrastructure includes 6 MW of ground-mounted solar capacity, 1.04 MW of rooftop solar capacity and 2 MW of wind power capacity. The Port has also undertaken several initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint and promote environmentally responsible operations, including shore power facilities and energy-efficient infrastructure. Further strengthening its commitment to clean energy, the Port is developing a 6.25 MW Offshore Wind Power Project and has floated the tender for a 2 MW Green Hydrogen Plant Project.

In his message, Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, conveyed that the award recognizes the Port’s sustained efforts in environmental sustainability, innovation and operational excellence. He stated that the Port will continue to strengthen initiatives supporting India’s clean energy transition and long-term maritime decarbonization goals.

Guided by the Harit Sagar Green Port Guidelines of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority continues to advance its green port transformation agenda.
