V.O. Chidambaranar Port Readies Its Team to Tackle Ebola, Conducts Preparedness Mock Drill

Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Preparedness Mock Drill was successfully conducted at V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin through the joint efforts of the Medical Department and Port Health Organization (PHO) on 4 June 2026.
The exercise brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including State Health Authorities, Joint Director of Health Services, Corporation Health Officer, District Health Officers, 108 Ambulance Services, Government Medical College Hospital response teams, Customs, Immigration, CISF, Fire & Rescue Services, shipping agents, terminal operators, and other allied agencies.
It may be noted that many vessels, both container and breakbulk, operating on African routes regularly berth at VOC Port for cargo loading and unloading.
The successful conduct of the drill demonstrated strong inter-agency coordination, operational readiness, and a shared commitment towards enhancing public health emergency preparedness at the port.
