AMET University Holds Annual Mega Community Outreach Programme

Reaffirming its commitment towards environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and community engagement in alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, AMET University on 10 May 2026 organized the Annual Mega Community Outreach Programme 2025–26.

The programme, titled “10,000 Hands for a Sustainable Coast,” was conducted under the theme “One Day – 10,000 KG Waste Removal” along the East Coast Road (ECR) stretch from Thiruvanmiyur to Kovalam. The large-scale initiative focused on promoting coastal cleanliness, environmental conservation, sustainable living, and civic responsibility through active public participation and collective social action.

The mega outreach programme witnessed enthusiastic participation (around 5000) volunteers including students and cadets from various programmes of study, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, Principals, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, faculty members, teaching and non-teaching staff, under AMET University.

Participants actively engaged in the beach clean-up drive across different allocated zones along the coastline and collectively contributed towards the removal of nearly 10,000 kilograms of waste in a single day. This initiative created strong public awareness regarding the importance of protecting marine ecosystems, maintaining cleaner beaches, and promoting environmental sustainability for future generations.

The successful execution of the programme was made possible through systematic planning and coordination by various committees, faculty coordination teams, volunteer groups, and batch coordinators constituted by the University.

The programme was conducted under the leadership and guidance of the esteemed management and administrative heads of AMET University including Dr. J. Ramachandran, Founder & Chancellor; Dr. R. Rajesh Ramachandran, President; Susheela Ramachandran, Managing Trustee; Col. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam, Provost; Dr. V. Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor; respected Dr. Deepa Rajesh, Vice President (Academics); and respected Dr. V. Sangeetha Albin, Registrar.

Their encouragement and support inspired the volunteers and reflected the institution’s dedication towards nation-building, social outreach, and environmental stewardship.

The programme also reflected the spirit and objectives of the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on Climate Action, Clean Water and Sanitation, and Life below Water.

Through this impactful initiative, AMET University once again demonstrated its strong commitment to community welfare and environmental protection with the message, “Committed to the Community… Consistent in Action.” The event stood as a remarkable example of collective responsibility and social commitment, inspiring young minds to actively participate in building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.

Dr.A.Thanikasalam, Dean Administrative i/c and S.Ramaraju, Director, Centre for Outreach Programmes served as the Chief Coordinators and organized the programme successfully.
