V.O. Chidambaranar Port Showcases Leadership in Clean Energy Initiatives at India Energy Week 2026

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin, marked a significant presence at India Energy Week 2026, held from 27-30 January 2026 in Goa, under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, reaffirming its commitment to India’s clean energy transition and sustainable infrastructure development.

On the sidelines of India Energy Week 2026, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oriana Power Limited, Uttar Pradesh, to explore potential collaboration on sustainable energy initiatives.

The MoU focuses on the development and deployment of a Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) pilot project, as well as the establishment of a Green Methanol production facility, including associated infrastructure and logistics, at or in association with the port. The initiative aims to advance the Port’s carbon neutrality goals and readiness for green methanol bunkering and export-oriented green hydrogen infrastructure.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, by A. Senthil Ganesh, Executive Engineer, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, along with Omkar Nath, GH2 Business Head, and Anirudh Saraswat, Co-Founder, Director & Chief Business Officer, representing Oriana Power Limited.

In another significant step towards sustainability and environmental management, V.O.Chidambaranar Port Authority signed an Tripartite MoU with Thoothukudi City Municipal Corporation and Universal Cleantech Solutions Private Limited for the development of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) processing facility at the Port.

The facility will focus on the production of green methanol from municipal solid waste, supporting the Port’s commitment to clean energy and circular economy initiatives. This project will address the difficulties in waste handling andpaves way towards sustainability.

This MoU was signed in the presence of Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, by A. Senthil Ganesh, Executive Engineer, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Binu Mohan, General Manager, Universal Cleantech Solutions Private Limited, and Smt. S. Priyanka, IAS, Commissioner, Thoothukudi City Municipal Corporation.

On Day 3 of India Energy Week 2026, Susanta Kumar Purohit participated as a panelist in the session titled “Delivering Viksit Bharat’s vision for energy growth: The critical role of railways and shipping in facilitating India’s future energy supply chain.

Susanta Kumar Purohit highlighted that VOC Port is all set to provide green methanol facility to the shipping lines that are hedging across fuel pathways.

Supported by India’s emerging green hydrogen ecosystem, established ammonia handling experience, strategic location close to major East–West trade routes, and outer harbor expansion with dedicated green-fuel infrastructure, VOC Port is evolving from a conventional logistics node into an orchestrator of a green energy ecosystem, with Pilot methanol bunkering targeted in the near term and focused to ramp up in commercial scale and establishing green corridors thereafter.

These initiatives reflect V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority’s proactive role in advancing green energy solutions, sustainable waste management, and infrastructure aligned with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat, strengthening India’s energy and logistics value chain.
