KPL Celebrates 77th Republic Day, MD Announces Record Rs 919.07 Cr Revenue Till Dec 2025

Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL), a company of Chennai Port Authority under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, celebrated the 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour, highlighting its strong operational performance, infrastructure expansion, sustainability initiatives, and contribution to nation-building.

J. P. Irene Cynthia, IAS, Managing Director, KPL, unfurled the National Flag and addressed the gathering of port officials and nearby villagers. In her address, Irene Cynthia outlined the port’s achievements and future roadmap in alignment with Maritime India Vision 2030.

The celebrations were enriched by cultural performances by students of 38 Government schools supported by Bumble B Trust and Rhapsody Music Foundation, with participation from KPL officials, employees, port users, and residents of neighbouring villages.

KPL HANDLED 36.28 MILLION TONNES OF CARGO FROM APR 2025- DEC 2025

At the Cargo front, the KPL handled 36.28 million tonnes of cargo from Apr 2025- Dec 2025, registering a 2.69% growth over the corresponding period of the previous year. Container traffic stood at 5,24,224 TEUs, automobile handling increased by 23.04%, and the port handled 740 vessels up to January 2026, reflecting steady operational growth.

RECORD REVENUE OF ₹919.07 CRORE UP TO DECEMBER 2025

Financially, KPL recorded revenue of ₹919.07 crore up to December 2025, with Profit Before Tax of ₹701.56 crore, and paid a dividend of ₹300 crore to the Chennai Port Authority.

KPL has emerged as a key facilitator for renewable energy logistics and green manufacturing exports. For the first time in the port’s history, over 700 units of windmill components belonging to GE and Vestas were exported onboard MV Bahri Jazan to multiple destinations in the United States.

Further strengthening this segment, KPL signed Memorandum of Understanding with Vestas Wind Technology India Private Limited and Nordex India Private Limited during India Maritime Week 2025 for handling windmill components valued at approximately ₹7,000 crore each. The port has also facilitated the export of Defence Equipments by BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited.

Under the “Viksit Ports, Viksit Bharat” initiative, KPL has completed key projects such as the rehabilitation of the Northern Breakwater for 24X7 cargo operations and implementation of the e-Port Clearance Portal for faster cargo evacuation and Ease of Doing Business.

MAJOR PROJECTS UNDER IMPLEMENTATION

Major projects under implementation include the IOCL Captive Jetty (3 MTPA, ₹921 crore), Coal Berths 3 and 4 (9 MTPA each), and Capital Dredging Phase VI to achieve an 18-metre draft, significantly enhancing the port’s capacity and readiness for next-generation vessels.

Aligned with Maritime India Vision 2030, KPL has identified capacity addition projects of about 80.88 MTPA, leading to a total port capacity of 139.32 MTPA, with an estimated investment of nearly ₹5,000 crore which is more than doubling the current capacity of 58.44 MTPA.

FOCUSED MEASURES TO ENHANCE EFFICIENCY

The port is undertaking focused measures to reduce vessel turnaround time and dwell time, enhance multimodal evacuation, and increase PPP and private operator participation in cargo handling to 74% by 2030.

In line with green port objectives, KPL is scaling up its renewable energy capacity to 1.82 MW through solar installations and expanding shore-to-ship power capacity to 2,000 kW at Coal Berths 3 and 4.

CSR INITIATIVES

Reflecting its strong social commitment, KPL has invested over ₹100 crore in CSR initiatives since inception. Key initiatives include the supply of 5 lakh liters per day of desalinated drinking water to neighbouring villages through DRDA Tiruvallur and TWAD Board at a cost of Rs 4.9 Cr, support for special education for children with special needs, construction of school infrastructure and development of a cancer ward at a government hospital.

Additional initiatives include contributions of ₹25 lakh to Rhapsody Music Foundation for project-based skilling in 10 Government Schools, and ₹33.165 lakh to Bumble B Trust for the Kalvi–40 Digital School initiative covering 28 Government Schools in North Chennai and Tiruvallur. Through sustained growth, infrastructure development, green initiatives, and inclusive community engagement, Kamarajar Port Limited continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s maritime sector and advancing the vision of Maritime India Vision 2030 and Viksit Bharat.
