Kandla International Container Terminal (KICT), located at Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla, and serves as a key gateway for container trade in western and northwestern India, has surpassed last year’s annual cargo handling of 77,58,498 MTs, recording a cumulative 78,06,220 MTs, achieved an impressive three months and nine days early.

Situated on the shores of Kandla Creek in the Gulf of Kutch, KICT connects seamlessly to hinterlands in Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, and industrial belts serving routes to the Middle East and Upper Gulf.

Operated by Kandla International Container Terminal Private Limited, a subsidiary of the J M Baxi Group, one of India’s oldest and most experienced ports and logistics conglomerates, KICT occupies Berths 11 and 12.

Designed to revive and boost container traffic at the port, KICT features modern infrastructure, including dedicated rail sidings for efficient connectivity to northern India, making it a vital hub for export-import and domestic containerized cargo.

With an annual capacity of around 750,000 TEUs, KICT handles a mix of international and coastal containers, supported by advanced equipment and a focus on operational efficiency.

In recent years, KICT has shown remarkable growth in performance, reflecting increasing trade volumes and improved efficiency. Monthly throughput has risen steadily, with records broken frequently. In October 2025, KICT achieved a historic 60,708 TEUs — its highest-ever monthly figure and the first time surpassing 60,000 TEUs — eclipsing the previous record of 56,955 TEUs set in March 2025.

As Deendayal Port targets higher capacities with upcoming projects like the Tuna-Tekra mega terminal, KICT is poised for sustained expansion in India’s growing container trade sector.
