South Korea’s Busan New Port, India’s V.O. Chidambaranar Port To Sign MoU Soon?

The meeting between V.O. Chidambaranar Port’s Chairperson, Susanta Kumar Purohit, and Nishi Kant Singh, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Seoul, has sparked speculation that VOC Port may soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Busan New Port for the “exchange of best practices” to achieve mutual benefits.
It is noteworthy that Susanta Kumar Purohit participated in the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference 2025, held from September 16–18, 2025, in Seoul, South Korea.
During the conference, the Indian diplomat, while interacting with the VOC Port Chairperson, reportedly suggested that VOC Port explore an MoU with South Korean ports, such as Busan New Port, to facilitate the exchange of best practices for mutual benefit.
According to available details, the Chairperson briefed the Deputy Chief of Mission on various capacity enhancement projects proposed for VOC Port, including outer harbor development and an offshore windmill terminal.
Additionally, the Chairperson highlighted green initiatives, such as the establishment of a Green Hydrogen Hub, bunkering facilities, and the production of green methanol from solid waste.At the conference, the Chairperson provided detailed insights into the investment potential of VOC Port, with a special focus on green hydrogen and its derivatives.
He also shared information on upcoming infrastructure projects, such as the Outer Harbour and the establishment of a Mega Ship Building Cluster. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, South Korea, and organized by the International Contractors Association of Korea.
