Tamil Chamber of Commerce Organizes Business Session & Awards Function

The Tamil Chamber of Commerce held its 81st Annual General Meeting along with a Business Session and Awards function on 12 September 2025 at Hotel Ambassador Pallava, Egmore, Chennai.

The Chief Guest for the evening was Justice R.Suresh Kumar from the Madras High Court. The event was also graced by Stephen S.C Hsu, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai and V.M.Muralidharan, Chairman of Ethiraj College for Women and COO, Bahwan CyberTek Group as Guests of Honour.

Chozha Naachiar Rajasekar, President, The Tamil Chamber of Commerce, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. He introduced the various awards, including Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti Awards for the Best Designer and Best Weaver in Silk Sarees, Chozha Naachiar Foundation Awards for the UPSC-IAS Topper (I & II) in Tamil Nadu and the Sri Champalal Savansukha Memorial Awards for the Best Students in Commerce. He expressed his wishes that the awardees would continue to achieve further accolades in their respective fields.

While addressing, Stephe S.C.Hsu emphasized that despite Taiwan being a small nation, it excels in advanced technology sectors such as electronics and energy while maintaining a strong cultural identity. He also remarked on the friendship between India and Taiwan, noting the many shared values that deserve recognition.

V.M.Muralidharan congratulated the Tamil Chamber of Commerce for its commitment to recognizing the achievements in education and textiles, particularly in silk.

He pointed out that India has made significant investments in human capital, leading to high educational standards, although challenges remain in lower skilled sectors like construction and labour.

He highlighted the vast human capital and the abundance of technical institutions in Tamil Nadu, which are ahead of the rest of the country. He noted that foreign investments are flowing into areas where skills and technology are prominent, indicating a positive trajectory with global implications.

Chief Guest for the evening, Justice R.Suresh Kumar, commended the Chamber’s efforts and its significant contributions to trade and industry since 1944.

He emphasized several initiatives undertaken by the chamber that have drawn the government’s attention and facilitated resolutions through government representatives. He also stressed the necessity for India to exert great effort in bridging gaps across various sectors, despite achieving a commendable 4th position in global GDP growth ratings.

Furthermore, he remarked on the importance of harnessing the potential of India’s youth across all sectors to identify industries capable of generating employment opportunities for educated and skilled young individuals.

Earlier, Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti Awards were presented to K. Cheran for Best Designer in Silk Sarees and K.Gopinath for Best Weaver in Silk Sarees. The Chozha Naachiar Foundation Awards were awarded to B.Sivachandran, UPSC-IAS Top Rank Holder from Tamil Nadu and Ms.Gee Gee A.S, UPSC-IAS Second Top Rank Holder from Tamil Nadu with both awards being accepted by their relatives on behalf of the awardees.

Sri Champalal Savansukha Memorial Awards were conferred upon Aarthi from Dhanraj Baid Jain College and Unnati Jain from Gurushree Shantivijai Jain College for Women, presented by Justice R.Suresh Kumar. The meeting concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by B. Ravi Kumar David, Honorary Secretary of the Tamil Chamber of Commerce.
