Chennai Port Celebrates National Space Day

Chennai Port and Dock Educational Trust Hr. Sec. School, under the aegis of Chennai Port Authority, celebrated National Space Day on 25 August 2025 with great enthusiasm to create awareness among students about India’s achievements in space science and to motivate them to explore the field of astronomy and technology with a theme of the Year 2025 “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities.”

The day began with a special address during the morning assembly for Classes I to XII, where a teacher explained the theme of the year and spoke about the significance of National Space Day and India’s contribution to space research. A special programme was arranged for Class XI and XII Science students. The events began with Tamizh Thai Vazhthu by the school choir. P.Kalaiselvi, Headmistress, rendered Welcome Address. It was followed by a video presentation on India’s milestones in space research including Chandrayaan, Aditya L1, and Gaganyaan by school Alumini Poofa now working with ISRO. After that, selected students delivered informative speeches on the importance of National Space Day.

Speaking on the occasion, S. Aruna, Sr. Assistant Secretary, Chennai Port Authority, said, “The celebration reflects our commitment to nurturing scientific curiosity among students. The theme, ‘Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan,’ encourages our children to draw inspiration from India’s glorious past and look forward to infinite possibilities in the future.”

As part of the programme, Elavarasan, Post Graduate Teacher (Physics), addressed the students on the importance of the day. He highlighted the theme for 2025, “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities,” connecting India’s ancient astronomical knowledge with modern space missions.

If was followed by a quiz competition by the Science Department, and winners of the competition received prizes. Students also organized an exhibition of space models prepared by them, which was highly appreciated by the visiting people.

Around 100 students from various classes participated and showcased informative charts and creative models highlighting India’s remarkable space mission. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks rendered by Assistant Headmaster Hari Baskar.

As an extension of the celebration, the school has also planned an educational trip to the Birla Planetarium, Chennai, for Classes XI and XII Science students. The visit will provide students with a practical learning experience about celestial objects, space missions, and astronomy, thereby complementing the classroom and celebration activities.

The celebration, along with the planetarium visit, reflected the theme “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities”, inspiring students to connect India’s glorious scientific past with its promising future in space exploration.

The event was a grand success, leaving students motivated to explore the wonders of space science and to contribute to India’s future achievements.
