The annual Swachhta Abhiyan organized by Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) as part of a nationwide cleanliness campaign conducted from 15 September to 2 October 2017, concluded on 3 October 2017. The closing ceremony was held at the main Administrative building. Mr Deepak Naik, Chairperson Mormugao Municipal Council was the chief guest, while Mr G. P. Rai, Deputy Chairman, MPT, was the guest of honour. Mr J B Dhawale, Secretary, MPT, welcomed the gathering, while Smt. Vidhya Sawant introduced the chief guest. The Port Nodal Officer for Swachhta Abhiyan Mr M. Iddalagi presented a detailed report of the various activities conducted during the period.
Addressing the gathering of Port Officials, employees staff and students, the chief guest Mr Deepak Naik said: “The Port has always supported community endeavours and taken steps to implement the programs for benefit of society and success of Swacchta Bharat Abhiyan. We appreciate the gesture of MPT for having constructed two toilets blocks with modern facilities at Headland Sada during this fortnight for the use of public. We need the support of every citizen to fulfill the vision of the Prime Minster for a cleaner and greener environment. The MMC has so far succeeded in implementing door to door garbage collection in 80% areas under its jurisdiction.”
Mr G.P Rai, Deputy Chairman, MPT, in his brief speech stated: “Even though the Swachhta Abhiyan fortnight has ended, the spirit of the Abhiyan should continue and cleanliness should be an everyday affair. The Port will extend all support for initiatives to fulfill the mission of a clean and green India. The campaign should not be restricted to just a few people, but everyone should make all efforts to be involved in the mission.”
Prizes were distributed to the winners of drawing, Elocution and Essay writing competitions conducted during the fortnight for the Deepvihar school children. Cloth bags made by children of New Dawn Asha Deep Special School were presented to the dignitaries to carry the message of reducing usage of plastic bags.
Short skits focusing on awareness of Swachhta Abhiyan were presented by MPT employees. Mr V.V Satya Sreenivas IRSME, Chief Vigilance Officer/MPT also shared his thoughts on Swachchta Abhiyan. Smt. Christine Pimenta, proposed a vote of thanks. The function was attended by local MMC councilor Mr Gaurish Bandodkar, Heads of Department, Labour Trustees, Officers, staff, employees and children from Deepvihar High School.
