Secretary for Ports, Shipping Dr. Sanjeev Ranjan Visits Paradip Port Trust

As part of regular review, Dr. Sanjeev Ranjan, Secretary for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, made his maiden visit to Paradip Port Trust on 10 January 2022.

He was extended very warm welcome by Shri P. L. Haranadh, Chairman, PPT and Shri A.K. Bose, Dy. Chairman, PPT at Jawahar Guest House. On arrival, he was accorded Guard of Honour by the CISF, PPT contingent at Jawahar Guest House.

Thereafter, he visited the Port and saw the operations in the Dock area. He also evinced keen interest for the proposed Mahanadi Riverine Port by PPT while his onsite inspection. In the afternoon, he visited Mechanized Coal Handling Plant, Twin Wagon Tipplers at JSWPTPL and PICT berth.

Dr. Ranjan reviewed the functioning of the PPT in the Board Room of the Administrative Building and had interaction with Exporters, Importers, Stevedores, PPP operators, local Representatives of various industries, representatives of Unions and Associations. He also has a virtual discussion on modernization of Paradip Fishing Harbour with State Govt. Officials and other stakeholders. Dr. Sanjeev Ranjan wished excellent prospects for Paradip Port in coming years.

During the visit Secretary Shipping has directed the Port to expedite widening of NH-53 (Paradip to Chandikhol) through Special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed between Paradip Port & NHAI under Gati Shakti Programme. Secretary has also directed, Chairman, PPT to Jet sanction of rail master plan for Cargo evacuation under customer funded model to be executed by IPRCL.

Besides, Secretary, (Shipping) has reviewed National Waterway-5 Project and has given direction to Inland Waterways Authority(IWA) to prepare a road map & implement the same in a time bound manner.

A workshop has been organized on “Gati Shakti Multi Model Connectivity for Cargo Transportation” through PPT on 11th January 2022 at Bhubaneswar, where the issues connecting Cargo transportation, through roadway, railway and waterways will be discussed in detail, to come out with a clear cut action plan for implementation.
