Russian Railways, Kazakhstan To Develop Roadmap for Digital Transformation of Freight Transportation

Chief Executive Officer – Chairman of the Executive Board of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozerov, and Chairman of the Board of JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy”, Nurlan Sauranbayev, held a working meeting, where they discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation in the transport sector and logistics.

The leaders of the railway companies noted the positive dynamics of the development of relations and promising areas of long-term partnership.

Oleg Belozerov and Nurlan Sauranbayev discussed the work of railway border crossings on the Kazakhstan-Russia and Kazakhstan-China borders, as well as the development of paperless freight registration technologies. The parties agreed to develop a roadmap for the transition to a digital format of the registration of export-import transportation.

Plans to develop the activities of the United Transport and Logistics Company (UTLC), established by the railway administrations of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, were also discussed.

In January-March 2021, the volume of cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and Russia remained at the level of the same period in 2020 and amounted to more than 21 million tons. At the same time, the volume of container transportation showed a significant increase. For 2020, the volume of container transportation amounted to more than 810 thousand TEU, which is 37% higher than for 2019. For the first quarter of 2021, the volume of container transportation by rail on the Russian Railways network between Russia and Kazakhstan (including railway connections with third countries) amounted to about 218 thousand tons. DFE ( 55.7 % compared to the same period in 2020).
