Union Govt Approves Rs 17,000-Crore Outer Harbour Project for V.O. Chidambaranar Port

The ₹17,167-crore Outer Harbour Project at V.O. Chidambaranar Port has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), marking a significant step in expanding the Port’s maritime infrastructure and strengthening Thoothukudi’s long-term role in India’s trade and connectivity.
According to VOC Port, this milestone reflects the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for world-class maritime infrastructure and the guidance and continued support of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
The project will create major new harbour infrastructure and container terminal capacity, laying the foundation for the next phase of growth at VOCPA, added the port statement
