Chennai Port Authority Boosts CSR to ₹8.22 Crore for 2026-27, Focuses on Education, Health & Community Empowerment

In a significant step towards inclusive development, the Chennai Port Authority (ChPA) has allocated a total of ₹8.22 crore for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the financial year 2026-27.

This robust commitment underscores the port’s dedication to driving meaningful social impact across education, healthcare, skill development, road safety, and environmental sustainability.

ChPA signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with multiple beneficiary organisations and distributed CSR grant cheques during a ceremony held at the port.

The event was attended by Sachin S. Kurve, IAS, Chairperson, Chennai Port Authority, S. Viswanathan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, Anugraha P., IAS, Chief Vigilance Officer, and senior officials.

Key CSR Allocations

The major projects approved include: ₹1 crore each to Pune Vaidyakiya Seva Va Sanshodhan Pratishthan (Maharashtra) for medical infrastructure and to Greater Chennai Corporation.

₹82.5 lakh to Madras Medical College for its Regional Centre for Medical Education Technology.

₹60 lakh to Sri Ramakrishna Math for renovating a 100-year-old dispensary.

₹41 lakh to Greater Chennai Traffic Police for road safety equipment, including pedestrian signals and Variable Message Signs (VMS) boards.

Support for special education, with ₹27.73 lakh to Swabodhini School for children with autism.

Skill development initiatives, including training for youth from fishing communities and maritime programmes.

Additionally, ₹2.46 crore has been allocated to the National Maritime Complex, while ₹16.45 lakh is earmarked for monitoring and evaluation of these activities.

The initiatives span critical areas such as inclusive growth, public safety, livelihood enhancement, and social inclusion, reflecting a comprehensive approach to community welfare.

Leadership Emphasis on Sustainable Impact

Speaking at the event, Sachin S. Kurve said, “CSR is not a mere obligation but our responsibility towards creating an inclusive society and moving a step forward towards achieving sustainable development goals.” He highlighted that the projects would contribute to long-term societal well-being.

Deputy Chairperson S. Viswanathan added that, “CSR goes beyond financial assistance. It is about creating opportunity, empowering communities, and building partnerships that bring about sustainable and meaningful change.”

With this higher CSR outlay, Chennai Port Authority continues to strengthen its role as a responsible public institution, partnering with local and regional organisations to foster equitable and sustainable progress in Tamil Nadu and beyond.
