Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) solemnly commemorated the 135th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, paying tribute to the chief architect of the Constitution of India and one of the greatest nation-builders of the country.
Addressing the DCIL family on the occasion, Captain S. Divakar, MD & CEO, highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring legacy as an eminent jurist, economist, social reformer, and visionary leader whose ideals of justice, equality, dignity, and constitutional morality continue to guide public institutions across India.
Emphasizing the relevance of Dr. Ambedkar’s vision to DCIL’s role in nation-building, Captain Divakar noted that as a premier maritime organization, DCIL contributes significantly to the country’s economic growth by ensuring navigable waterways, supporting port operations, enabling coastal shipping, and strengthening maritime infrastructure. He stated that these efforts align closely with Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of inclusive national development.
Recalling Babasaheb’s belief in equal opportunity and empowerment through education, he underscored the importance of fostering a work environment rooted in fairness, merit, diversity, and equal opportunity. He reiterated that DCIL’s strength lies in its diverse workforce—officers, engineers, seafarers, and employees working across dredgers, project sites, regional offices, and the corporate office—united by a shared commitment to nation-building through maritime excellence.
Captain Divakar further emphasized that diversity and inclusion are not only social imperatives but also strategic strengths that enhance innovation, decision-making, and institutional resilience. He reaffirmed DCIL’s commitment to promoting gender inclusion, representation of marginalized sections, accessibility for persons with benchmark disabilities, and a culture of mutual respect and dignity.
Quoting Dr. Ambedkar’s philosophy that the progress of a society is measured by the way it treats its people, he called upon all employees to embody these ideals in their daily work by upholding transparency, fairness, and respect in all professional interactions.
On this occasion, DCIL reaffirmed its commitment to advancing India’s maritime progress while upholding the timeless principles of justice, equality, fraternity, and nation-first service as envisioned by Babasaheb Ambedkar.
The event concluded with a collective pledge by employees to carry forward Dr. Ambedkar’s vision in both professional and personal spheres.
