Chennai Port Nets Basketball Title, Mormugao Port Crowned Chess Champions in Annual Major Ports Tourney

Under the aegis of Major Ports Sports Control Board, Chennai & Kamarajar Port Sports Councils jointly hosted the All India Major Ports Basket Ball and Chess Tournament 2025 from 03-05 March 2026 in the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
Dr. K. Senthil Raj, IAS, M.D, SIPCOT, inaugurated the All India Major Ports Basket Ball and Chess Tournament 2025-26 in the presence of S. Viswanathan, IAS, Chairperson, Chennai Port Authority, and J.P. Irene Cynthia, IAS, Chairman & Managing Director, Kamarajar Port Limited. Officers & employees across the 11 Major Ports had participated in the Tournament. The three-day tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from Major Ports across the country.
Teams representing Mumbai Port, New Mangalore Port, Visakhapatnam Port, Mormugao Port, Deendayal Port (Kandla), Jawaharlal Nehru Port, V.O.C. Port, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (Kolkata Port), Paradip Port, Kamarajar Port Limited and Chennai Port competed in league matches.
Competing with six Major Ports (Chennai, VOC, Paradip, Kolkatta, Vizag and New Mangalore Port ), Chennai Port Authority lifted the winners’ trophy defeating V.O. Chidambaranar Port at the All India Major Ports basketball Tournament at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Chennai Port Authority clinched the championship by scoring 78 points, while the VOC Port scored 76 points and secured the second position. Kolkatta Port secured the third position.
Competing with 10 Major Ports (Chennai, KPL, VOC, Paradip, Mumbai, Deendayal, JNPA, Vizag, Murmugao, and New Mangalore Port ), Mormugao Port Authority lifted the winners’ trophy defeating Kamarajar Port at the All India Major Ports Chess Tournament at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Mormugao- Port Authority clinched the championship by scoring 16 points, while Kamarajar Port scored 15 points and secured second position. Chennai Port secured the third position.
Dr. V.P.Jeyaseelan, IAS, Joint Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed prizes in the august presence of S.Viswanathan. In his address, he appreciated the dedication, discipline and sporting spirit displayed by the players of the teams throughout the tournament.
He emphasised that such national-level sporting events strengthen inter-port coordination and promote physical fitness and team spirit among employees.Â
