Vigilance Awareness Week was observed in New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) from 30 October to 4 November, 2017 as per the directives of Central Vigilance Commission with the theme “My Vision- Corruption Free India”.
The Week commenced with the integrity Pledge administered to all the staff in Kannada, Hindi and English on 30 October. Banners relevant to the theme were displayed at prime locations of the Port and also at prominent nearby public places to sensitize public about Vigilance. Competitions like Essay / Slogan writing, Elocution etc. on issues relating to ill effects of corruption were conducted amongst the school children and employees. A quiz contest on conduct and disciplinary regulations of NMPT was conducted amongst the employees.
A vigilance sensitization program for all the stake holders including Stevedores, custom house agents, steamer agents and contractors/vendors was organized on 25 October. Vigilance sensitization programmes were also conducted in nearby schools & colleges for creating awareness on the impact of corruption and integrity pledge was administered to the students of these schools. About 150 students of IT department of NITK, Surathkal participated in the vigilance sensitization program.
Dr. S. Shakir Hussain I.R.S, Commissioner of Income-Tax (Appeals), Mangalore graced the Valedictory function as the Chief Guest and delivered a thought-provoking and informative speech on role of citizens & public in the fight against corruption. Chairman (I/c) – Shri Suresh P.Shirwadkar presided over the function. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competitions.
