V.O. Chidambaranar Port Creates New Record in Cargo Handling

V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust created a new record by discharging  55,020 Metric Tonnes of Coal in  24 hours at Berth No.9 through Harbour Mobile Crane from the gearless vessel MV. Agio Sostis on 03 February 2020, surpassing the previous record of 54,512 Metric Tonnes of Coal handled in 24 hours at Berth No.9 from the vessel M.V. Pacific Victory on 11 December 2018.

The Liberian flagged vessel MV. Agio Sostis with Length overall of 225 metres, beam of 32.26 metres, and arrival draft of 14.02 metres arrived at VOC Port, Tuticorin on 03 February from Port of Tarakan, Indonesia.

The entire quantity of 71,500 Tonnes of coal consigned to Global Coal Ventures was discharged through Harbour Mobile Cranes operated by M/s. Imcola Crane Company Private Limited. M/s. Seaport Shipping Private Limited is the Vessel Agent and M/s. Sea Port Logistics Private Limited is the Stevedore Agent.

During this financial year 2019-20 upto 04 February 2020, V.O. Chidambaranar  Port  Trust has handled 30.22  Million tonnes of cargo and 6.74 Lakh TEUs of Containers, registering an increase of  4.45 % and 8.28% respectively when compared to the corresponding period of last year.

Ramachandran, IAS., Chairman, V.O Chidambaranar Port Trust while thanking all the stakeholders, Officers and the employees of the Port who have contributed to achieve these records, conveyed that this Port is continuously striving to achieve improvement in performance and productivity in order to attract more volume of traffic through the Port.
