Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Thoothukudi District organized the 7th edition of CII Conference on Logistics 2019 with the theme “Thoothukudi – Transshipment Hub” on 16 October 2019 at Hotel DSF Grand Plaza, Thoothukudi.
Addressing the gathering, Mr T K Ramachandran, Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port (VOCPT), said that in that last nine months VOC Port has achieved the lowest detention time of vessels, which led to better productivity.
Mr T K Ramachandran stated: “Cargo growth increased to 8.9% container cargo to 13% growth in the last 6 months. Port land available for industry use at substantially reduced rate. Chennai –Kanyakumari Industrial corridor provides huge opportunity for industry growth in the petrochemicals, manufacturing and Textile sectors.”
“Port is planning for 8-10 MLD desalination plant and also installing solar and wind energy plant. Port community system offers online connectivity to customers including making online payment. Many of the systems will be made digitally handled in future,” he added.
In the conference, Mr J Kumaragurubaran, IAS, Managing Director, SIPCOT, Mr Sandeep Nanduri, IAS, District Collector, Thoothukudi District, Dr S Aneesh Sekhar, IAS, Executive Director, TIDCO, delivered keynote address.
Mr Ahmed A R Buhari, Founder & CEO, Coal & Oil Group, Mr S Chandramohan, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu & Group President, Finance & Investment Strategy, TAFE Ltd, Mr A Shidambaranathan, Vice President, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank, Mr J David Raja, Event Chairman – Conference on Logistics & Senior Vice President , St John Freight Systems Ltd delivered the special address to the participants.
Mr Krishna Shankar, Chairman, CII Thoothukudi, delivered opening address and Mr Praveen Mathew, Vice Chairman, CII Thoothukudi proposed vote of thanks. The session was attended by over 200 participants from various industries across the Tamil Nadu.
