In a press release issued on 24 May 2018, Shri.Raja M Shanmugham, President said that Thiru.Edappadi K Palanisamy, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has made a representation to the Prime Minister on 22nd May 2018, with a requisition to address a few important issues affecting the textile industry, specifically Tirupur knitwear export sector related issues mainly to safeguard the Textile Industry in Tamil Nadu and sustain in the global market.
While thanking the Chief Minister for considering TEA representations, Shri. Raja M Shanmugham pointed out that the Tirupur Knitwear sector issues like declining of competitiveness by about 10% due to Customs duty free status enjoyed by our competing countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia, decrease of Rebate on State Levies (ROSL) from 3.5% to 1.7% and Duty Drawback rate from 7.7% to 2%, ROSL pending claims etc., have been included in the representation and also requested for enhancement of Duty Drawback Rate to 5%, allocation of required fund for clearing ROSL pending claims etc.,
Shri.Raja M Shanmugham further mentioned that with the right kind of support coupled with positive measures from the Tamil Nadu Government and also unveiling of much expected new Integrated Tamil Nadu Textile Policy would rejuvenate the Textile Industry in Tamil Nadu including Tirupur garment export sector.
