New Mangalore Port achieved yet another milestone on 22 May 2019 when Shri Gopal Krishna, IAS, Secretary (Shipping), Government of India, inaugurated the newly constructed Terminal at Berth No.16 for mechanised handling of coal at a project cost of Rs. 469.46 crores in the presence of the Port Chairperson, Dr. (Smt.) M. Beena, IAS, and the Terminal Operator, M/s Chettinad Mangalore Coal Terminal Pvt. Ltd. represented by itsCMD Shri M.A.M.R. Muthaiah.
According to a media statement, the Terminal will enhance the Port’s cargo handling capacity by nearly 6.73 MMTPA and will enable NMPT to position itself as Number one amongst the cleanest ports of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary (Shipping) congratulated the Port and the Terminal Operator for adhering to the project timing and stressed on the importance of Private Public Sector cooperation to achieve the larger objectives of the Govt.
He also said that the initiatives of the Port will further contribute towards the development of the region and the State of Karnataka, for which the Ministry of Shipping stands fully committed.
