PSA Chennai Celebrates 10th Anniversary, Hosts Trade Meet To Honour Stakeholders

To mark PSA Chennai’s 10th anniversary, Chennai International Terminals Private Limited (PSA Chennai), owned and managed by PSA International, hosted celebrations in Chennai for staff, stakeholders and the trade on 27 September 2019.

Since commencing operations in September 2009, the terminal has handled over 6.9 million TEUs and achieved its highest annual throughout of 940,240 TEUs in 2018.

The terminal has won the “Container Handling Terminal of the Year” award four times in 2013, 2017,

2018 and 2019 and also holds the productivity record for the South and East Coast of India of 171 moves per vessel hour.

In the morning, a staff event in the terminal honored long-term employees and saw a series of spirited performances and entertainment from PSA Chennai’s staff in addition to a video message from Mr Tan Chong Meng, Group CEO, PSA International.

In the evening, a trade meet was organized. It was attended by officials from Chennai Customs, Chennai Port Trust, Consulate General of Singapore, shipping lines, cargo owners, CONCOR, and trade bodies.

In his speech, Mr Cyril George, Deputy Chairman of Chennai Port Trust, complimented PSA Chennai on its anniversary and emphasized the key roles of the Port Trust, Chennai Customs, trade associations and terminal operators in transforming Chennai’s capabilities as a leading port in the region.

Mr Pong Kok Tian, Consul General of Singapore in Chennai, highlighted the strong trade, cultural and tourism links between Chennai and Singapore, whilst Mr Wan Chee Foong, Regional CEO, Middle East and South Asia, PSA International, spoke of the future ambitions both of the terminal and PSA in India. Mr Madhanmohan, General Manager PSA Chennai, thanked the trade for their great support over the past decade.
