As an Ease of doing business initiative of Govt. of India, Chennai Port Trust & Kamarajar Port Ltd in association with Indian Ports Association (IPA) and Logistics software company M/s Portall organized a road show for Port Community system (PCS1x) at Chennai on 1 July 2019.
Sri. P.Ravindran, IRTS Chairman, Chennai Port Trust attended the program as chief guest and inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp.
In the inaugural address he informed that, the road show was conducted with the objective of sensitizing & creating wider awareness amongst the maritime community and creating a robust Port Community System.
PCS 1x was rolled out in December 2018 – simultaneously at 12 major ports of India. Today over 14000 users exchange the transactions daily including customs, payments, vessel, cargo and delivery related messages. Adoption of PCS1x would result in marked improvement for the ease of doing initiatives. It will help improved visibility, reduction in time and cost along with documentation work. The digital solution also aids in improving the payment facility and e-delivery in maritime trade.
The roadshow hopes to speed up onboarding by the rest of the maritime ecosystem since the platform is designed to handle 27 stakeholder categories and is able to evolve basis any changes requested by stakeholders. All major trade associations are working alongside IPA and M/s. Portall to improve adoption and address additional requests from the stakeholders.
He requested co-operation and adoption of the same from all participants for the benefit of maritime trade. Portall presented to the trade community the benefits and features of PCS 1x and indicated additional functionalities in the pipeline.
Mr. Rajeev Puri, CAO ,IPA presented the current updates on usage and upcoming technical aspects for users. He also informed about PCS contribution towards INDIAS NATIONAL SINGLE WINDOW (NSW).
The session closed with an interactive discussion on the way forward and live onboarding of new users onto PCS 1x.
The roadshow received good response from the shipping agents, custom house agents, terminal operators, container freight station, Mercantile Marine Department, Port Health Organization and other officials of Chennai Port Trust and Kamarajar Port Limited.
The PCS roadshows were flagged off at Vizag Port Trust, Chennai and Ennore are the second and the team will move on to cover the participating ports in rest of India.
